My Hood Bakery Is Better Than Your Hood Bakery

Living in town is all good for cafe’s and coffee but when it comes to decent bakeries the city just fails. You have to go out to the hood for the mean bakeries and none does it better than Hong Kong Bakery in Mangere Bridge. Oh yeah, they STILL don’t have eftpos. But who needs eftpos when you’re the best bakery in the world?

Best. cheesebread. ever. The butter just melts in the bread. The long cheese breads had already sold out the day I went and are always the first to go with the families after church on a Sunday, but I guess that’s what you’d expect from the best bakery in the world.

Above are the coconut scroll and coconut cream bun, I broke the bun in half so you could see all that coconut creamy goodness. What are your faves from your neighbourhood bakery? If your bakery had a fight with my bakery, who would win? (hint: mine would)

  1. That coconut bun looks seriously good. My fav is this bakery on the main street of Waiuku, I don’t even know what it’s called because I just instinctively walk there rather than looking for its sign. It’s next to a haircut place but that doesn’t really narrow it down. Their ham and cheese buns are so good, the dough’s kinda sweet, that’s the best thing, and they have really amazing custard buns, all sticky and sugary with bright pink icing.

  2. Went to the HKB on the weekend and guess what they have now?… EFTPOS! No more stressing about having only $19 on my card when the ATM only gives you 20′s hahaha :)

  3. Been Going Hong Kong Bakery Since I Was A Child. Still Do Now. Gonna Go Tomorrow Morning From Weymouth With The Kids. Their Pies Are Packed, Their Breads Are Fresh & There’s A Nice Place To Park Up A Little Ways Down The Road.
