“usually I don’t dress up for Halloween, but shit, I’m with the homies”

by lei

Yep, I don’t know what possessed me this year, but for the first time in my life not only did I dress up for Halloween, I spent hours (and more money than I planned to) making myself this giant flower bouquet costume. Special shout outs to Shirl who donated two hours of her time to sew most of the leaves on too. I’d say all up it took me about 5 hours to make and once it was done, I thought to myself…’hang on, WHY did I do this again?’ The answer :  Chloe had got us hyped off all her instagram pics in the weeks leading up to Halloween, so we’d invited ourselves round to her place, and costume madness took over.

It’s been a sad week, and this was a welcome distraction.  We went to Spookers in our costumes, and it was funny that in between scaring the shit out of us, the actors would stop and say to me, ‘what the hell are you wearing?’…and then go back to starting up a chainsaw and chasing after us.

How hot does Shirl look as Gogo Yubari from Kill Bill? Che in the background as one of the Crazy 88.

Ron, aka Venom from Spiderman, aka the Drummer in The Daylight Robbery.

Chloe, aka Lil Wayne.

Ron had to sit still for about an hour and a half while his tattoo artist mate painted the Venom face onto his morph suit.

Chloe had created a bunched a bunch of halloween themed treats, including these rad corn-candy cupcakes and guacamole inside a carved out pumpkin.

Card attached to my costume. In case you were wondering, I made it by buying a pair of leggings, and a hooded top, a crap load of bunches of flowers from the $2 shop and then hand-sewed everything on individually. I copied the idea from this amazing child’s costume here, but had to improvise as it was clear I didn’t have enough flowers, nor did I want to spend the hundreds required, to cover my entire body in flowers. Here are a few pics from the creation process:

Piles of fake flowers, and laying out the costume before the hours of sewing.

Ta-da!
