pretend winter shopping

Cape Dress

I’d received an email about Winter and Rixon awhile back, but only just got round to checking the site out now, and I’m really digging the pieces. It’s a very small collection, but I can see myself wearing all of it. I’m always attracted to simple styles with clever detailing, which is what I like about the cape dress, new noise skirt, and shirt jacket.

Shirt Jacket

And while I’m pretend shopping, my favourite thing to wear right now… is my bath-robe. I know, shame ay. That’s obviously why I’m feeling these long coats so much, Ruby even called theirs a ‘Robe Coat’, so, they must be on the same buzz as me. Leaving the house in coats that feel like robes must make facing winter that much easier.

Robe Coat – I’d totes take my cue from the model and go round flashing people, what fun!

Oh, and while I’m at it, can someone buy me this entire outfit below? K, thanks. Bye.

Russian Red Lips

Cherry Lip Pencil x Russian Red lipstick x Opulash Optimum Black Mascara = the make-up codes for me right now (All M.A.C). And yes, that is red lipstick smeared on my forehead, I don’t know how that happened, so, you know, watch out for that sort of thing when you’re wearing red lippy. (But as long as you’re not me, *hint – you’re not* you should be fine.) I got the red beanie from Arcade so I could stay warm at the League Anzac test, and I’ve been pretty much wearing it ever since. I’ve said it before, but I like wearing bright lipstick because it means not needing to wear much else in terms of make-up (read: I’m lazy). A bit of bronzer and mascara and you’re good to go.  P.S Do you know how long it took me to take these photos? AGES. Self portraits are not easy, I tells ya!

sock-buns are cool

Top Bun – Wedding Chicks, Bottom Bun – ME!

Your hair + a sock + bun = awesome. I suspect many of you fine ladies know this already, I even read about it on a blog last year and thought to myself, ‘I need to try that’ – but it was only today that I actually did. I always wondered how girls got those awesome, big, donut shaped buns on the tops of their heads, turns out it’s a sock with the toe cut off. The catalyst for me trying it was when Sharyn from The Edge tweeted Sarah‘s how-to tutorial. Video tutorials make the world go round I tells ya. Also, for those of you trying it – that second hair tie is crucial, without it my hair looked like a birds-nest mess but once you pop that hair-tie over, it tidies it all up. And for bonus points, we now finally have something to do with all those odd socks, yay! P.S I suck at doing hair, so if I can do it, you can do it better. I guess the thicker the sock – the thicker the bun? Video tutorial below, and more pictures and another tutorial here – plus a hilarious conversation on a guy’s take on sock-buns that begins with, Let’s say you were making out with a girl and she had her hair in a bun. And when you went to touch her hair, you discovered a sock in it – what would you think?”. LOL

SGC ‘Me & Mrs Bones’

On Wednesday night Stolen Girlfriends Club treated the media to a runway showing of their ‘Me & Mrs Bones’ Spring Collection, goodie bags and all (baby-pink MAC lipstick! Allpress Coffee beans! yussss). Floral prints Bright skull prints that appear (to my tired eyes anyway) to look like floral patterns, washed out denim, mesh cut-out body-con dresses and skeletal/tribal patterns were all features of the eclectic range. The golden and dark-brown eye make-up deserves a mention for being so pretty too. Here’s a few highlights from the show:

autumn blues (what i’m wearing this week)

Two things happened for the first time in a long time this week. 1) I bought a pair of jeans. I’ve been a strictly dresses and skirts kind of gal for a good couple of years – but having to wear stockings so often so early in the year breaks my heart a little bit, so I purchased a pair of jeans instead. The logic there doesn’t really make sense, I know, but that was indeed the logic used at the time. This is the only pair of pants I have in my wardrobe, so expect to see me in them often. 2) On Wednesday, I could no longer deny it anymore, it was cold. I had to break out the trenchcoat for the first time this year. I hate being cold. But I love winter fashion. So, I guess, bring on winter? *cries*

The jeans are Topshop MOTO High-waist Kristen Jeans which I got from Playpark in Newmarket. I love the Dept. Store, but because I live out South I’m so glad I don’t HAVE to go to the Shore to get my Topshop fix. The coat was my winter purchase from last year, also Topshop. ASOS top, ZARA flats, Hello Kitty glasses.  #Chainstoreswag.

Lindi Kingi swag

Image: Katherine Lowe

The only actual physical mail we seem to get these days are bills, bills, bills (*sings*can you pay my bills?). So, I was pretty excited when I got a lil package containing goodies from Lindi Kingi Design in the mail box. See that photo above? That’s me, wearing x2 Lindi Kingi necklaces, because a) I’m one of those people who has to wear everything new that I’ve gotten all at once, straight away and b) I’m terribly indecisive and couldn’t choose between the two. I also got THE cutest python skin coin purse. As well as harboring coins, it’s now become the home for lipstick and hair-ties. As it happens, I was checking the site today and noticed Lindi Kingi is now selling on my all time fave store, ASOS. Choice!

Fashion Fest – the d00ds

It’s been all about the ladies round these parts lately, but I’m here to make amends. Here’s a lil tribute to some of the menswear shown over Fashion Festival week. Something for everyone here I reckon, especially if you’re into camo, smart suits, leather accents, letterman jackets and gingerbread men. Yes, I said gingerbread men, what of it?

Fashion Fest – Final Day

The above photo was my favourite moment on the catwalk during Friday’s final show, I think I sighed a little as the model turned to reveal the drop-back of her stunning Liam dress. Friday night’s show easily had the most sex appeal, and not just because it began with models in lingerie. It was more a elegant and dark, brooding sort of sexy, rather than the overt kind. The colour injected into Jimmy D and Zambesi was stunning, the ankle strap heels in Liam caught my eye and, let’s be honest, the fact there were a lot more fellas on the catwalk than previous nights didn’t go unappreciated, but more on them later…

Fashion Fest Day 4 – #latepass

Huffer

The Thursday and Friday night shows were by far the best of the week. Thursday night definitely had more of a playful vibe, the collections were largely street, with so much I could see myself wearing. I’m all about that Sylvester polka dot playsuit and those Workshop neon sunnies. I’m kinda looking forward to it being cold enough to wear one of those cute grey Huffer beanies too. Actually, it kinda IS cold enough now. Yay?
