Stolen Girlfriends Club – Nasty Goreng Spring Collection (runway)

sgccatwalk

Stolen Girlfriends Club Creative Director, Marc Moore, describes the collection as a mishmash of opposing ideas and themes, call girls and American G.I’s. We got a sneak peak into the Spring collection on Wednesday night, at a huge, vacant and freezing warehouse in Newmarket (if only I could have warmed myself with wine). It felt as though the runway show was split into two themes, the first part had some of my favourite outfits which gave me of a kind of ‘Grown up Girl Scout’ vibe and my girl Shirl said they reminded her of the movie ‘Moonrise Kingdom.’ The second half featured a vibrant leopard print, which also showed up in see through full-length gowns. The highlight of this section being the head to toe orange leopard print jumpsuit and wide brimmed hat and a knee-length zip-off black trench coat. The night also hailed the launch of the MINI PACEMAN, which took its own turn down the runway wearing the SGC ‘Death Moth’ print. More runway pics below, lookbook images coming soon.

models in boohoo + a big ass cake

boomodels5boocake1boomodel1boomodels3boosign

What’s a one year anniversary celebration without some hot models and a big ass cake, right? With boohoo now being the 4th most visited fashion site in Oz & NZ, selling six dresses every minute, I can see why the peeps at boohoo, including its founders Carol and Mahmud, were all down to par-tay for our last night in Sydney. Mix a bunch of kiwis, ozzies and guys and gals from the UK, and a big night will mos def be had. But, conveniently, what goes on tour, stays on tour… shout outs to Courtney from Always, Sometimes, Anytime tho, you’re the man.

But before dancing til the wee hours, we were able to admire pieces from the boohoo ‘Boutique’ and ‘Future Sports’ ranges (due out around July/August) on some stunning models. The Future Sports pieces were some of my faves from the showroom and it was even better seeing them worn IRL. My love for the neon-pink leopard print ensemble grew even more. I’d somewhat overlooked the ‘Boutique’ range at the showing, the collection being darker and a bit more serious, but the dresses got my attention that night. Plus, I’m a sucker for wearing socks with heels, and flower crowns, so that put it over the edge for me. More fash & food pics after the jump xx

polka dots & animal print (Platypus Shoes + Outfit post)

platypus1

On Saturday I was invited to check out the new kicks store that’s opened up on Queen Street, Platypus Shoes, and pick up this sweet pair of Vans lows. It wasn’t an easy choice though cos it seemed like all the cutest sneakers had been packed into the one store, there were some lilac patent Docs and heart-printed Converse that also caught my eye, but I’ve been all about that animal print life of late, so I couldn’t go past these:

boohoo #globalstyler : 90s steeze

boohoo90s1

For my second look as part of the boohoo #globalstyler campaign, I chose to have a bit of fun with 90s style. The trends that always strongly stuck in my mind from that decade are crop-tops and bum-bags. Had to give a shout-out to stonewash, mid-waisted denim too.  The gold chain is probably my fave thing from the whole shoot, it goes so well with the turtle neck & y’all already know how much I love camo jackets. My hair and make-up was inspired by this hot pic of Cindy Crawford.

I hope this inspires more crop-top & bum-bag wearing.

Hey, look it’s me, a Boohoo #GlobalStyler

urbanexplorer2

w00p w00p! I’m so glad I can finally tell you guys about the lil project I did with boohoo for their very cool #GlobalStyler promotion.

Basically, boohoo are giving away the trip of a lifetime, and all you have to do is snap yourself wearing boohoo in your city, holding this nifty speech bubble and upload it to instagram with the hashtag #globalstyler to be in to win. So, go on with your bad selves and get your boohoo selfies on.

To get the competition kicked off, I’m one of a few bloggers from around the globe (I’m international, baby) that has been asked to style three looks based on their key Autumn/Winter 2013 trends. My first look is my take on the ‘urban explorer’ trend :

miss crabb dress x lonely lingerie x omaha

lonley3

The lingerie came first, and then the dress. I’d had my eye on the ‘Lonely’ cutout triangle longline bra, and matching high waist brief for some time and thanks to my first tax return in years, they became mine. While I was paying for the set, I joked that now all I needed was something to show off the bra, and it was suggested that Miss Crabb had the perfect dresses to do just that. I’ve worn this ‘Summertime’ dress so much already, day or night, it is, as the name suggests, the perfect summer dress.I snapped these pics just before spending hours diving over and under waves at Omaha beach. Beauty day, beauty beach.

Aaradhna x Lani Says : The Treble & Reverb Interview

I had the pleasure of interviewing Aaradhna earlier this year after having a sneak preview of her album, Treble & Reverb. As you’ll find below, she was very open and candid about her long absence from music. She had in fact quit music altogether by 2007, and was just doing, as she put it, the ‘girlfriend thing’ with her partner Leon in Romania, who was there to play basketball.

It was only when she made a youtube channel, out of boredom and to fill her days while Leon was at training, that she began to write music again, and realised people were still listening out for her. Check my interview, and more stunning photos, with her below:

You told me that you’d quit music. What brought you to that point?

When I quit, I did it because I just didn’t wanna do music anymore. I quit because I couldn’t take criticism. I was real sensitive. Anytime anyone said that I sucked, I really took it to heart. That’s why I quit, because I couldn’t handle all that stuff. When I started making music again, the true fans were still checking up on me and wanted to hear more stuff from me. I thought ‘Oh, I should do it for all the people that want to hear my stuff, plus, music is what I wanna do.’ I shouldn’t have let negative people stop me from doing what I really love doing.

Did you remember that you actually really enjoyed it too, when you started doing it again?

Yeah, it was a release for me because I didn’t write music for a while. When I started writing music, there was nothing else I was doing at the time too. Whenever I finish writing a song, I always feel complete, it’s like, ‘ahhhh,’ it’s hard to explain.

It’s like nothing you get out of anything else you do in life?

Yeah, it’s like people get excited about riding roller-coasters, but that’s [writing music] what I get excited about. When I finish a song and I really like it, it’s like ‘I gotta use this song for something.’ That’s how I feel, ‘I gotta use this song for something’, I can’t just keep it to myself.

I thought it might have been when you went to the States, that might have put you off a bit?

There was a whole bunch of things. When I went to the States, all the criticism, that was all in my head as well. But I thought, America, I’m gonna try and do something and get over all that stuff. I thought something was really gonna happen, but it didn’t work out. The people I was with, they were all good people and they had good intentions but it just didn’t work out the way I wanted it to work out. That’s when I started getting homesick as well, I started missing my family. It was just me and Leon, and it’s just a different world over there, it’s too fast.

sequin party dress & ruby heels

I’ve gotten all magpie with my choices in clothing lately, as is evidenced by my new boohoo sequin party dress, from their new Boutique range. This is easily the sparkliest dress I’ve ever owned…well duh, it is entirely covered in sequins.

And I’m utterly with love with my Ruby bonbon heels. That is all. (Images by Penina)
